Student Enrollment Forecasting: Edmonds School District

Client: Edmonds School District

Location: Snohomish County, Washington

Edmonds School District (ESD) needed geographic context for their student enrollment projections. Previously, enrollment projections provided forecasts for the district in total. This proved to be problematic because it’s difficult to make critical decisions for individual schools without a more granular depiction of future enrollment.  In order to make better facility planning decisions, ESD sought to understand the student population dynamics at work inside individual school catchments.
Because we specialize in a holistically geographic approach to student enrollment projections, we were able to provide detailed catchment-level enrollment projections for ESD’s elementary, middle, and high school catchments.

Our approach showed Edmonds School District:

  •      Which neighborhoods or catchments are growing or declining
  •      How this growth or decline will impact individual schools
  •      How catchments will change in five years vs. ten years
  •      Details about the students living in catchments and which schools they attend

Additionally, we provided ESD with a web-based map application to interact with their geographic data as well as final enrollment projections from our analysis.
Our geographic approach to student enrollment projections equipped the district with a more useful tool to aid in short and long-term district facility planning.
