During his undergraduate studies, Grant became interested in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a way to help understand processes of and change in natural and social environments, sparking a 15-year career in the geospatial field. At the beginning of his career, while in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, Grant gained considerable experience in building and managing parcel and address data.
Now, at FLO, Grant’s expertise encompasses a myriad of skills, including geodatabase design, server technologies, system architecture, and GIS integration. His passion for the programming and data integration side of GIS has him creating and automating GIS tools with Python and developing web applications, as well as managing Esri Enterprise components and SQL Server. Grant’s involvement in research and development is helping FLO develop new products and innovative problem-solving approaches. Outside the office, Grant enjoys the outdoors, fly fishing, and photography.
“I think the most rewarding part of my work is solving a difficult technical problem or building something that makes somebody’s day a little easier or better. It is also satisfying to know that I am helping the larger community through our efforts to improve GIS use in smaller cities and utilities.”
